Pomegranate Sangria, Honorable Mention, Merlot Cook Off

Description

The pomegranate pairs really well with merlot.  Sweet and refreshing.  Very easy to drink and dissapears quickly.  

Ingredients:

2 oranges, one for juicing and one for slicing

750ml MacLeod Merlot

1 1/2 cup pomegranate juice, such as Pom Wonderful

1/3 cup Grand Marnier or Truple Sec

1/4 cup brandy or cognac

2 Tbl fresh lemon juice

3 Tbl sugar

1 large apple, chopped into 1/4 inch pieces

1/2 cup pomegranate arils (seeds) if available

Directions:

Juice one orange into a large pitcher.  Cut the other orange into quarters, thinly sliced, set aside.

Add wine, pomogranate juice, orange liqueur, brandy, lemon juice and sugar, stir until dissolved

Stir in apples, oranges, pomegranate arils.  Refrigerate overnight or at least a few hours.

Serve in wine glasses, with or without ice.  Yum!
