The Naked Lady

The Naked Lady

Amaryllis ("naked ladies") like this return every summer just before harvest.

Our ranch was originally settled by a pioneer family sometime around 1880. They built a small house on a spot with a great view. Their home burned down around 1922 but the basalt stone foundation survives. The first summer we were here a gorgeous clump of pink Amaryllis Belladona (a.k.a. "Naked Lady") sprang up in front of the old pioneer foundation and has returned every year since. These old fashioned flowers bloom just before harvest and have come to symbolize our optimism. We consider them to be the good luck talisman of our family.
